Unfortunately, religion makes many people so blind and deaf that they keep coming up with excuses to justify such actions as moral and right instead of questioning the book with a god like this.

Let's recap what happened here. To trigger a conflict God used mind control to make king Sihon refuse to let the Israelites pass through his country. Then God commanded the Israelites to conquer the country and kill all civilians, including children. Don't forget grabbing the plunder. This is like drugging a mayor and then killing entire city for mayor being high. What a divine example of justice and morality.

God never gets tired of orchestrating genocides for his pleasure. And he didn't even give them a chance to hear the "gospel" or its Old Testament alternative to get "saved" for the afterlife. It's ironic that earlier God's arguments to believe in him were signs and wonders prophesied through Moses. Now God says when someone like Moses comes from a competing God and does the same, kill him. It's like saying "believe in me because I can do X, but don't believe in another God that can also do exactly the same". By the way, the cost of this divine test is the life of the poor guy used by God as expendable material.

Watch out, God kills merciful people. The basis for God's death sentence for the released person was that he called God a god of hills and not valleys. What a horrible crime! After Ahab spared the life of that "criminal", God commanded to kill the family and friends of Ahab for it. Fantastic!
